Capgemini &
CORUS Wales:
April 2008 – July 2008
|
SAP Data Migration Consultant |
|
Consulting with
Capgemini
who is an SAP Consultancy I was tasked to assist their Client
CORUS
with their SAP Data Migration needs. Reporting to the Data Team Lead, I was assisting the
Capgemini
Consultants from the Master Data Transformation Team, I was troubleshooting the SAP Uploading Errors for 50+ Data Objects.
This pilot (for the
Shotton
plant) is the initial project for the Corus C1P Programme so quality was a high priority. The transformation tool was IBM
WebSphere DataStage (formally Ascential). This was an extremely large project
with plenty of SAP Data uploading issues. Providing assistance for the Testing
Teams, Providing Statistics for PMO and all the normal Technical & Functional
things within a Legacy to SAP Data Migration Project

Locations (FRC, Work Areas, Cost Centres, Plant Register, Plant Items, Common
Plant Register and Common Plant Items), Maintenance Assemblies, Functional
Location BOMs, and 30+ extra Data Objects. |
|

|
|
Consulting with
BOA
who is a dedicated SAP Data Migration Consultancy I was tasked to assist
Ecolab
with their Data Migration needs. I was liaising with the Master Data Team from
Deloitte’s
(Ecolabs
chosen SAP Implementation Partners) who in tern were in contact with initial pilot of 4 countries (Switzerland, Netherlands,
Belgium & Germany) before rolling out world wide which should continue well into
2010. Taking their Data Object Mapping Documents as the main source of
information and programming the Data Migration and Data Transformation into the
BOA Toolset, here I was concentrating mostly the ECC Material Master (which is
of course the widest & most complex Data Object). Migrating from two older
Legacy SAP systems (DE & CH). Collecting Data from a couple of IBM AS/400s (NL &
BE) and also collecting Data from MS Access, Excel Documents and also Legacy
Object Oriented Database System (EPIC). Here I was creating and programming
repeatable Microsoft SQL rules and reports for DSW Data Staging Warehouse
(Cranberry / Cransoft / Back Office Associates product). I was creating Error
Reports for the Cleansing Teams to action upon. This was an extremely large
project with plenty of Data Manipulation requirements in the three main areas of
Operations, Sales & Finance. Providing Statistics for PMO and all the normal
Technical & Functional things within a Legacy to SAP Data Migration Project
|
|
SAP Modules: ECC 6.0, CRM |

Consulting direct to
Davis Langdon
who is the largest UK Construction Consultancy company, I was tasked with assisting them in their financial Reconciliation
(whilst they were doing a Legacy to SAP Data Migration Project) here I was
working their SAP Implementation Partner
Axon Global
. I implemented
Microsoft
SQL Server 2005 Integration Services (SSIS)
to download data locally for Validation against Legacy System Data Using the
Microsoft
.NET Data Provider for my SAP Business Suite
. This was initially a 1 week assessment which was spread over 2 weeks, I was
asked to assist them up to Go-Live but unfortunately I already had my next
assignment already arranged. Basically during this time I managed to hand things
over to the local technical team for them to continue their Accounting Specific
Reconciliation reporting and activities. |

Maersk
, Copenhagen Denmark: Mid Jan 2007 – May 2007
|
SAP Data Migration Team Lead & Consultant |
|
|
Working for
Maersk who are major players in the Shipping Industry, I was an
interim SAP Data Migration Manager to fill in for an IBM Consultant who was
going on maternity leave. Managing the existing Data Team Consultants and also
advised on improving the Data Cleansing and Data Validation working practises to
validate the extra data volumes for the next ‘go-live’ cluster in NAM (North
America) and EUR (Poland).
The client is now in Cluster 3 and about to start Cluster 4 and they have well
defined working process for bringing extra new countries onto the SAP Fact
global solution.
We updated and prepared the Data Migration Training & PowerPoint Presentations
and Templates for NAM and POL and invited the local country Data Migration
Managers and their team members for Data Object Workshops. I updated the
complete end to end High Level Project Plan and also updated and revised the
final Cut-Over Project Plan.
Data Quantity for the next Go-Live is by far the largest in data volume;
therefore we had to improve the working practices in this area. Weekly Reporting
to FACT Project Management, Working remotely with the local country Data
Managers and Data Transformation /Cleaning Teams. Utilising my “MS Access”
skills I was asked to quickly put something together to create a “Semi-automated
CY/Port Expense tool” which saved employing 20 staff in China and other
countries in future clusters.

OCS,
UK: August 2006 – Mid January 2007
|
SAP Data Migration Team Lead / Consultant |
|
Working with an SAP Partner, their client
OCS
and their Implementation Partners (SAP
themselves); I was asked to put together a Tender Bid up against 2 other SAP
Partner Consultancies for the SAP Data Migration. I successfully won the bid and
immediately was tasked to put together the best working practices and put together
the SAP Data Migration Strategic Planning etc.
I visited each SAP Functional Team
Lead to get an initial idea as to how many Data Objects were In and Out of Scope
for Phase 1 and Phase 2, this then gave me an idea as to the required resources
and skill-set needed to complete the Data Migration Project. Straight away I produced
a complete end to end High Level Project Plan and planned out the scope of the Data
Migration efforts needed.
The client had plenty of Data Issues due to the fact that
they were migrating from 50+ Legacy Systems. These systems were loosely tied together
so Data Quality and Consolidation was initially a main concern. Due to lack of Legacy
resources man power I then created a Consolidation Collection Database which then
became the complete starting point Data Repository used to initially to analyse
the existing Legacy Data and later for Transformations / Data Manipulation.
I hired
a team of LSMW / ABAP Data Migration Specialists and also put together the Legacy
to SQL Transformation Team, also gave knowledge transfer to permanent members of
staff on the Data Migration Methodology. Weekly Reporting to SAP and OCS Project
Management, Working with Data Transformation and Data Cleaning Teams
Basically running
the team and also being a hands on Team Member. Current Charge out Rate to the Client
was GBP£820 Per Day

Nestle,
Switzerland: July 2005 – July 2006 |
SAP Disaster Recovery Project Manager – Phase 1 & 2 |
|
|
Currently looking into SAP Disaster Recovery for
Nestle
who is the 10th largest
company worldwide and employs over 250,000 people and run SAP in many countries.
Currently they have a high availability and fully redundant fail over hardware and
services architected in 4 Data Centres around the world, if a whole site goes down
then another site (within 50 kilometres) will take over all operations. I am working
on a project working to put contingencies and changes in place so that if there
was a catastrophic disaster which would wipe out 2 Data Centres then Nestle would
be able to follow a well defined and tested plan to restore the Data Centre to another
location around the world. Working closely with Internal Staff, 3rd Parties (mainly
IBM),
Infrastructure, Basis, Messaging, AIX Teams; Working to an aggressive timeline
- I was given the task to do a phase one test before the end of December 2005 and
phase 2 before end of July 2006 to restore all critical SAP Systems to a "single
point in time" as to demonstrate that the business can continue to “do business”.
After 2008 it could be that every country world wide is running the
Nestlé 'Globe' SAP
Solution. So DRP is becoming more important! |

the old Legacy Systems to the new SAP Solution. Producing Documentation and highlighting
issues with all the Data Objects to be migrated to SAP (both Master Data and Transactional
Data). This role is mainly using my technical experience.

This was a short eight week contract working with
Axon Global Solutions(the largest
UK SAP Consultancy) and one of their major clients ‘Transport for London’
in migrating from a Legacy System called
OPAS to
new SAP
EH&S Occupational Health
module
from SAP’s Partner
Technidata.
I was tasked with simply getting the Data from the
Legacy System to the new SAP
EH&S Module
and the getting the client to signoff
a satisfactory result. There were lots of Data Cleansing, Data Validation and Data
Consolidation issues and I basically had to take ‘garbage in’ and return ‘good out’.
Due to another consultant leaving the project early, I basically completed the data
migration single-handedly; I had to work extremely long hours and weekends to ensure
successful SAP data Migration (with signoff).

SAP Consultancy
Atos-Origin:
July 2003 to May 2004 |
Microsoft & SAP Consultant – Saudi Arabia |
|
Working on a very large SAP Data Migration Project in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia)
for a reputable SAP Global Consultancy called
Atos-Origin
as a Microsoft & SAP
Consultant. I had the responsibility for designing and delivering Data Validation
Solutions for a highly successful client company called
SABIC (Saudi Arabia Basic Industries Corporation)
and 16 affiliate companies.
Whilst working on the FANAR
Project working in the Data Team for this Major Systems Integrator, I created a
Data Validation Solutions to validate both Master Data and Transactional Data. Here
my system will actually improve the data accuracy and help 16 companies migrate
from a variety of Legacy Systems to one large Global SAP ERP Solution.
Working within
the SAP Data Team with 20+ SAP Consultants we created templates in Excel for the
16 Affiliates to enter their Master and Transactional Data into, using my Data Validation
System we specified both simple and advanced rules for each column, we then empowered
the affiliates to Self Validate their own data whilst remaining SAP System Configuration
took place. The end result was validated excel spreadsheet colour coded in red and
green with supporting comments inside excel. Performance-wise our largest Transactional
Data File would benchmark 1.7 Million Validations in 21 minutes although smaller
Master Data Files would take only a few seconds or minutes and generally process
around 3,000 to 4,000 checks per second (and per instance) on standard hardware.
This Validation Framework I put in place is extensible and designed so more advanced
rules can be created and used in the future.
Utilising my Microsoft .NET Skills,
I designed, developed, tested and rolled out a variety of tools for this Greenfield
Project, the technology currently in use are: -
|
 |
Visual Studio.NET 2003
|
 |
SAP Dot Net Connector |
 |
VB.Net (Winforms)
|
 |
XML, IIS
|
 |
ASP.Net (Webforms) |
 |
SOAP & XML Web Services
|
 |
MS SQL Server 2000
|
 |
Excel 2000 & 2003 |
 |
T-SQL Stored Procedures
|
 |
The “ASPOSE.Excel” dot net component |
 |
ADO.NET & C# |
 |
Data Access Application Block |
|
This was a client facing consultancy role and the Entire project has been developed
in Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 (using Microsoft Visual Studio 2003).
I
designed and implemented a security framework and connectivity for 16 Domains to
access our centralised servers, this was a standard textbook implementation of how
distributed security should be implemented and was accepted by the 16 other company’s
security guidelines.
I also created an XML Web Service, which was a Gateway to SAP
to download SAP Table Data using the SAP Dot Net Connector, this downloaded at far
greater speeds than using older ‘classic’ methods.
